Thanks for all the responses.

Using your suggestions, we've solved the problem (at least temporarily).

Tek-tav's solution worked, but it was problem since all our numbers are in
special styles. Since this solution is based on using the "List" style, it
would cause us more work to change everything.

Our solution is going to be in two parts.

1. We're going to modify the styles in our template so that they do no have
any numbering in them, and are indented properly with tabs and hanging
indents.

2. Manual application of a macro that fixes the numbering.

Oh, well...there goes *my* weekend...
