Wow, I can't believe that neither of the Canadians snagged this one...

I'm a writer living in Canada.

I struggle to use the written word to convey the vastness of the landscape, and the inescability of one's own character. I have written story after story about intelligent women writers (or other artists -- but everyone knows that it's really about writers) with low self-esteem who lives in a town that is not quite big enough, and not quite understanding enough, to accept her for the smart, sexy, daring person she is on the inside, but not on the outside. All my stories contain a chapter where the main character goes out into the wild, like the outskirts of town, and witnesses something vast, like a snowstorm, or a drought, and then comes back into town, a little sadder, a little wiser, and somehow magically able to fit her slightly-too-big-for-the-prairies personality into the prairies.
