My claim to relevance for this is that it deals with instructions that
weren't given that I think should have been. It also ties in loosely
with the "Warning" thread, because it concerns my having trouble because
I was doing the intuitive thing, which turned out to be wrong.

I and a bunch of other folks had to fill out a form that was distributed
as a PDF. To fill in a piece of information, you positioned the hand
icon over the row of empty boxes that comprised the "blank," and the
hand turned into an I-beam. It worked fine, except for the Social
Security number. The hand would not turn into an I-beam. When I asked
for help, I was told that nobody knew what was wrong, and that other
folks weren't having trouble. Turns out you needed to position the hand
over one of the *dashes between* the groups of boxes. I discovered this
quite by accident, and the folks who weren't having trouble had probably
just moved the hand to any old place over the field. I, on the other
hand -- along with some folks who it turned out *were* having trouble --
was very carefully placing the hand over the boxes.

If only someone had told us ...
