That's *exactly* what he's saying (in his second message), which is why I wrote yesterday that no out-of-the-box file comparison utility was going to suffice.

The solution I suggested isn't difficult to write, once he gets both files (PDF and Word) into a single format (probably Word or plain text).

Close: After finding a patch where the files are identical, it won't find identical material in one file that appears *earlier* in the other.
