Andreas asked, "Is it soft.WARE or Soft.WARE?"

It does look like you found a unique situation. I have been searching my databases and can't find any examples so, if it were me, I would try my best to avoid using that name is the very beginning by rewording the sentence somehow. If I could not avoid it, I would use "soft.WARE." You will get all kinds of grief from your spellchecker and it may look odd in print but I believe that may be the proper way to use it.
