Does anyone know if there are any legal requirements in the U.S. for a
user's manual. e.g. font size, line spacing, etc?

Well, there are legal notices and copyrights (when you mention other companies and their products). Our editor just got done doing some research on copyrights in manuals, and her sense was that each company basically had their own requirements.

As far as line spacing and such, I know there is some standard you have to conform to if you are producing documentation for the Federal government.....but I don't remember specifics. It might have been the "Section 508" that Marguerite Krupp mentioned, but I'm not sure.
