I enjoy being a technical writer. I also enjoy management (people and
project). I've combined them both in my current gig.
But, like several respondents, I've felt burntout before. I've also been
painfully bored (which is worse). Actually, I've owned my own company
and had testing, translation (managing translators, not translating
myself), marketing and training (instructor-led and online) experience
as well through the years.
There are so many opportunities for change within the field of technical
writing that I hope I'm never so bored or burntout that I can't change
my situation (whether within a company, or by changing jobs).
I make a good living, but I'm certainly not making what I consider "big
bucks".
This is an interesting thread. I like to hear how others in the field
feel about it.
Have fun!
