I face a similar, if more recent, situation. The company I interned with, Dobbs, merged with another company, Gate Gourmet. The companies were mergine when I was there, but did not officially change until after I left.

I simply put on my resume:

Dobbs International Services (Now Gate Gourmet).

However, I don't believe I even need to do that. What happened to the company after I left is out of my control. And since I never worked at the merged company, I think it would be falsifying my resume to list it as a previous employer.

If the job was recent enough that it will be included during a reference/background check, then I would say that you should probably make an effort to point the person to the new company. However, if it's an older company, then I wouldn't worry about it and just use the old name.
