Well, Bruce, is it suitable for Windows, or isn't it???

You have to guess from my comments? :-)

Much of the interest in the project comes from Linux users, but there's a healthy contingent of Windows users involved, too (and Solaris and MacOS X) users). I've found OpenOffice.org 1.01 very stable and reliable under Windows. The only warnings I'd give:

- The Windows install gives you the option of changing file associations so that MS Office files will start in OpenOffice.org when clicked. If you're only experimenting, don't accept this option. It's not permanent, but it could be inconvenient, depending on your work methods or knowledge of Windows.

- OpenOffice and MS Office use different default fonts for creating bullets. As a result, you can get some unexpected bullet designs when switching back and forth between the office suites. If you switching files with bullet lists between the two programs, search the OpenOffice.org site for instructions on how to keep the bullets consistent.

Otherwise, I'd recommend OpenOffice highly, especially for those frustrated with MS Word.

However, I'd also recommend that potential users get into the spirit of the project and do a little research on the site. . I've investigated the software fairly thoroughly, but it's very possible that my needs or work methods are different enough from yours that you shouldn't follow my recommendation. Fortunately, there's enough information that you don't have to take my word, or anybody else's on the software. You can make an informed decision by yourself.
