But since I'm not, and since the rules of this list (like those of most on-
line discussions) forbid grammar/spelling flames, I'll just assume it was
an intentional mistake -- possibly made to see if anyone was paying
attention -- and let it pass.

Your #3 is an interesting point. But I don't buy it. If it were true,
English would not permit two identical sounds to adjoin each other.
