In the contexts you have offered, I would agree with you, because you
are offering directions. However, "the horse run" as a thing would not
be described as "past" anything. It would be "beyond" or "on the other
side of". Would you say, "Go to the shopping center past the field of
tomatoes."? (Wait a minute. Maybe you would. ) LOL. That sentence is
more directly analogous to the horse run sentence than the one you just
presented.
