I'll further explain my reference to a "dummy" character style.

I have on occasion set up a character style in Word called "keep
together". It really doesn't have any special formatting applied to it
(it's essentially "normal" text), but it's a character style that can be
applied to all characters that you don't want broken from the others.
This can trick WinHelp from breaking the line where you don't want
it broken.

And Richard is right -- the WinHelp compiler does not recognize
Word's non-breaking spaces.
