Of course you're not. You were careful to keep the recruiter informed, which shows a sense of professional ethics on your part. However, even if you hadn't,you were under no moral or legal obligation. Recruiters don't guarantee you a job, and you don't guarantee that you'll take every job they offered.

Nor are you to blame if the recruiter didn't have the sense to interview more than one person for the job.

Unfortunately, it sounds as though you were dealing with someone who holds grudges.That may affect your chances of working with the recruiter or the company in the future. However, considering the reaction you received, would you want to?
