RE: Job market and potential age discrimination?

Wow. I've only seen age discrimination on the other side of the coin.
I'd send in a resume, have a wonderful phone interview, some nice e-mail
correspondence, and then [chilling pause] the in-person interview. I
guess they were expecting someone older... The interview would go well,
and I'd get a call back within a week. Always something... "We need to
cut back from the initially offered rate" or "it turns out we can't hire
a senior/mid level writer, but we could fit you in as a mid/junior" or
something like that. This has happened to me at least a half dozen times
so far (though not as much in the past 2 years).
