Re: Getting a job as beginning tech writer
I hope this wasn't a dig ;}.
Certainly not at you.
But, as a contractor, I probably get around more than most people on the list. In the last eight years, I've done work for two dozen companies, and must have talked with at least another two dozen. Whether by listening to concerns, or by inferring from clients' attitudes, I'm forced to conclude that there are many people calling themselves tech-writers who give the entire profession a bad name.
So,while a professional attitude is always a good idea no matter what you do, one is especially important for tech-writers.
Often, it doesn't take much. I've seen clients relax as soon as I explain my work methods and they absorb the facts that they'll receive regular reports and not suddenly have to face project creep.
