I use PFE (Professional File Editor), from

http://www.winsite.com/info/pc/win95/misc/pfe101i.zip

The developer moved on, so it's no longer being worked on,
but it's very reliable (I think I managed to make it crash twice in
the last four years of using it). Doesn't have many fancy features
like spell checking, but it does have language sensitivity, you can
turn line numbering on and off, it'll save in DOS and UNIX format,
it has a record feature for macros, and it can capture the output
of
any DOS command to a text window (like directory listings). The
biggest plus is that it can handle almost unlimited size (I once
used it on a 14 MB SGML file with no problems).

It's also free.

Simon North.

Software development consists mostly of selecting
the correct wrench to pound in the right screw.
