The medical fields have always been around, and will most likely continue to stay around until the day man no longer needs medicine, so I'd say that getting into that end of the pool might not be a bad move. On another note, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the boom in federal jobs being offered at the moment. They may not all be in tech writing, but I've seen at least three FAA policy writing jobs offered in the last month with no prior experience needed. I admit most of these jobs require a security clearance or the ability to get one, but if you're eminently qualified, who knows?
