Well, sure--in most situations it probably *doesn't* matter how you get to high quality, on schedule.
The original post, though, was about how to deal with a manager who didn't understand why that particular writer used the "brainstorm" method rather than the "outline" method. To that manager, an early snapshot of the document seemed haphazard, unorganized, and generally unacceptable.
The writer had never intended anyone to see it in that condition, either--the manager took it from the writer's desk. Now, it's certainly the manager's perogative to do that, but many of us would prefer a manager who'd either let us know (so we could explain the state of the document) or understand that there are a lot of different paths to excellence.
