TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Don't forget, those are supported solutions. If you bypass those canned,
proven approaches, you will have something ad-hoc and particular to UPS
that will require in-house expertise and support. Home-grown is a
solution. But, remember, at the outset of this thread, your stated plan
was for this thing to be self-sufficient without you, after you leave in
6 months, because you "have watched my brethren design, build, implement
and walk away from every sort of failed documentation scheme." In light
of this last statement, maybe a canned approach would be better?
FYI, Most of the topics and ideas I am exploring in this tread are
supported
by the papers at http://www.arbortext.com/html/white_papers_webinars.html.
Since my focus is but a small team at the moment, I am looking to
implement
many of these capabilities without the immediate investment in
Arbortext/Doculabs size solutions.
