Re: To STC or not to STC?
I'm debating going to a "local" STC meeting---for me, the nearest
chapter is 2.5 hours drive away. I'm just not sure if the 5 hour round
trip plus 2-3 hours at the meeting will be worth the networking.
Thoughts, anyone?
That depends. What do you hope to get out of the meeting?
If you want a chance to hang out with other writers, then you'll probably enjoy the experience and think the trip worthwhile.
However, if your purpose in networking is to find a job, then you probably shouldn't expect much. True, some people at the meeting might have hiring authority, but most won't - and, in general, spending time with people who don't have hiring authority or who are also looking for jobs isn't the best way to find work.
Better to attend a seminar that will bring you in touch with those who might actually hire. Of course, if you were closer, you might attend the meeting on the off-chance of finding a lead, but, given the time you'll spend getting there, it's probably not worthwhile.
