Unfortunately for us, right now it's a buyer's market and the buyers don't want to pay squat. I've seen some ads DEMANDING the moon and offering downright insulting rates/salaries. And because supply far outstretches demand, they can get by with it. We'd like to think these jobs go begging, but they don't, not in this market. People have these nasty addictions called food, clothing, shelter, children, pets to support and take what they can get.

it's shortsighted, and the tide will, eventually, turn and people will bail for better pay, better jobs. Until then, it's grit your teeth, do what you must to survive.

Jobs continue to be posted for the Redmond/Seattle area...

Just because jobs are posted here, doesn't mean that there are that many available. Although I am very experienced as a tech writer, with a lot of valuable skills, I have been out of work for 10 weeks now. So, no new tech writers get to move to this area until I get a job!

On a lighter note, there are some truly hilarious job openings around here. One was posted a few weeks ago for a full-charge bookkeeper who would also be a technical writer; another one insists that the person have an AA in electronics. Or how about this one: Leading Media company seeks talented and motivated technical writer to provide technical documentation and marketing support for a proprietary online tool." It pays $20 - $25 an hour.
