As the owner of a staffing company that places technical writers, I am constantly amazed by the number of "experienced" technical writers who immediately knock themselves out of the running for a job because they have typos or errors in their resumes.

For example, not a day goes by when I don't see a resume with a mix of hyphens and en dashes in the employment date ranges (Word can be soooo helpful...).

And while people argue that one small error in a resume should not automatically disqualify them, there are so many QUALIFIED candidates looking for work right now that employers WILL disqualify those who haven't taken the time or attention to make sure their resume is correct -- it is, after all, the first sample of your writing that an employer sees.
