At Dick's excellent suggestion, I tried recreating the problem paragraphs. (As it turned out, PDFMaker was choking on bookmark 35, not page 35.) This didn't exactly work, but something in a series of applying/changing styles, deleting and replacing paragraphs, and other sundry "dinking around" techniques seems to have.
