STORY: Dan and the Innovation Award

Dan was determined to win the Innovation Award at that week's meeting. He
was a very competitive technical writer, and it wouldn't be the first time
he'd taken home the prize. However, he was uncomfortable because the
engineers had recently been walking away with the honor a little too
often. It was time to bring it back to the technical writing camp where it
belonged.

He sat at his computer and mulled over his choices. He browsed through
the TECHWR-L archive, and after noting the recent screenshot discussion,
hoped for inspiration by clicking on his old favorite, www.techsmith.com.

"What's this?" he murmured. He sat up straighter as he learned that
SnagIt 6.1 was just released. He studied the new features and their
benefits - one in particular caught his eye - Printer Capture. Printer
Capture let him capture printable documents as images, so he could then
edit the image using any of SnagIt's processing features. He methodically
began to prepare his speech, confident he could bring his audience to its
feet.

At the meeting, Dan explained, "When you click on the print option in
another program and choose the SnagIt printer, a preview of the printed
output is sent to SnagIt instead of to an actual printer. At that time,
you can apply all of SnagIt's filters and features to the document or
image - substitute colors to improve readability, add borders or
watermarks, and annotate with SnagIt Studio tools."

He saw the engineers exchange nervous glances.

He continued, "Using the SnagIt virtual printer lets you scale pages,
print anywhere on the page, stamp with time and date, and add a watermark.
In addition, Printer Capture helps make corporate offices paperless,
since you can distribute material electronically knowing that everyone
will be able to view it."

Dan concluded, "Since SnagIt's Printer Capture will save us not only paper
but time, I believe you would be remiss in not awarding it and TechSmith.
In fact, Printer Capture will help not only in all these ways, but also
bring us, as a company, closer together."

He wasn't sure what he enjoyed more - winning the award, or seeing tears
in the engineers' eyes.
