Good theory, but I don't think it's as simple as
making a transitive/intransitive distinction.

Consider "grow." It's use can be either transitive or
intransitive.

Transitive: The farmers grows corn.

Intransitive: The corn grows.

Without further study, I suspect the misuse of nouns
as verbs is, as someone else said, an attempt to be
perceived as intelligent.
