When I was the boss of a roomful of writers, I was offered
semiprivacy-- a separate room together with the writer of
my choice-- but I wanted a big room with everyone together,
so that I could be on the spot to solve any problems that
might otherwise be considered too small or too embarrassing
to escalate. Call me kind and concerned, call me efficient
and quality-conscious, or call me a control freak.
