David Downing wonders: <<How does everyone feel about using "FTP" as a verb
-- as in "You can now FTP the file."?>>

Depends entirely on the audience and context. For technically literate
folks, or in a context where you've defined FTP well enough that its use as
a verb is clear, there's no problem doing this; English promiscuously verbs
nouns, and techies are particularly eager to do so. I've certainly seen this
usage often enough. If, on the other hand, the audience is more general or
the context doesn't make the verb clear, stick with "transfer the file by
FTP [using FTP software, etc.]".
