I'd call.

Calling shows interest in and a desire for the job. If I were hiring and
let things go, I would be happy to receive a call from an interested
candidate who I had interviewed. Indeed, for a candidate I liked, I'd
encourage the call at the end of the interview.

Of course, it's only been a week. And, this is a holiday week. I'd have
followed up immediately with a thank-you-for-the-cool-interview letter,
then let it slide for two weeks and call.

And, of course, the silence on the part of the potential employer might
just mean they are really busy, key employees are on vacation, or their
H.R. dept. (or equivalent) needs a kick in the ass.

Cheers,

Sean

Now a week has gone by with no word. I've been advising him throughout
this campaign, but here I'm torn. Should he call them, to "check in," or
would that be an annoyance? He was told there would be a thorough
background check for security reasons, which might slow down the
decision
making process. With this forewarning, perhaps a follow-up call might
seem
pushy. Or is it just a good way for him to show his enthusiasm?
