Subject:A brief comment from an American... From:Charles E Vermette <cvermette -at- juno -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Sat, 29 Jun 2002 08:43:56 -0400
I am responding in a general way to the posts on the slave labor et al. I
apologize for continuing the thread, but I find one comment so repugnant
that I must respond:
To my fellow Americans: If you haven't seen the third world for yourself,
you have no idea what you're talking about -and it's blatantly obvious.
Get a passport, go see the town where my wife grew up in the Philippines,
see what she became, and then we'll talk about "relative skill levels"
and third world/first world interaction. If you haven't done this, your
comments are the equivalent of an eight year old lecturing on world peace
- and valued as such.
To the international writers on this list - I apologize for the
insensitivity of some of these comments in this thread. When travelling,
I've seen "ugly Americans" and been mortified by their behavior. It's how
I feel now.
Technical writing tie in? I hope some of these posters understand
software, networking, jet engines, etc. better than they understand this
topic. If not, I'm sure their writing reflects it.
