Good question! I think for many of us it has become a lower concern, which
kinda bums me out because I find the whole printing/publication process
fascinating. But my last gig only required us to deliver PDFs, which we
tried to configure to be generically printable. And in my current gig, I'm
a one-man shop; the printing process consists of firing off a job in Word
and walking 10 feet to the printer. Bummer.
Then again, I grew up with parents in the newspaper business, so I still
think hand-set type is way cool. Damn, I'm old.
