An interesting question came up about diagrams used by
programmers:

"Finally, do you know of any books, websites, and/or
resources that have a comprehensive list and outlines
the types of diagrams programmers use, their
characteristics, how to construct one, etc.?"

Today, there is an actual standard for diagramming of
software programs that also includes the kinds of
figures you would need for this task. It's called the
"Uniform Modeling Language" or UML. Any good technical
library has books on the subject, plus there are
articles of many kinds.

Many other resources are on the Internet. I looked at
Google with the search term "UML"--there were 944,000
hits! (Kinda makes you think it's popular, right?!)

If you're working in Windows, the most popular program
for diagramming is Visio. It has templates for UML
notation, as well as various network diagrams.

Since you're tasked with showing the physical network
stuff (servers, routers, switches, etc.), you'll find
specific diagrams for all of these.

The more advanced forms of Visio, by the way, can
simply be "pointed" at the network and it'll prepare a
diagram "automagically" including details about most
of the physical resources. That might make the rest of
your project rather easy.

Best of luck!

David
