I have been contacted about a technical writing position that requires "specific experience with Microsoft's Active Directory Technology."

Now, I may be wrong here, but I have never heard of a technical writer needing this kind of experience. Would any of YOU qualify for this? My purpose here is not to solicit applicants, but rather to be able to respond something like, "I have used Active Directory for the storing of documents (which I have), but always relied on a network administrator for the maintaining of the directory.

I was recently asked to document a specific implementation of Active Directory for internal use. It's possible that the position you mention had a similar project in mind.

However, given the relative newness of the technology, the chances of a tech-writer with any prior experience with it seems low. This may be just another example of a job ad being a wish-list, in which the company will settle for much less if necessary.
