This is in no way meant to be taken in a negative light, just an example of
particular audiences.

|Two junior high schools fed students into the high school I attended.
|
I grew up and still live in Australia - It has taken me a short while to
work out what this sentence was meant to communicate. I can only assume the
target audience is in the US?
Here, the basic school structure (with some variation between states) is:
primary school
- grades 1 to 7
- usually ages 5 to 12
- structured curriculum the students have no control over
high school
- grades 8 to 12
- usually ages 13 to 17
- students start to have the options of selecting their subjects, building
up from almost no choice(8) to almost maximum choice(12).
university/TAFE/Workforce
- make your own choices - it's your life.
- tertiary studies (Bachelor's & Master's & Doctorate degrees)
- vocational studies (Certificates, Diplomas, apprenticeships
- Workforce
It is not compulsory for children to complete all these steps. Here in
Queensland children may leave school after grade 10 (about 15 years old).
Am I correct in assuming that junior high in the US might equate to years 8
- 10 here? When students have the first option to leave school?
I don't see anything wrong with what Emily has written - this is just an
example of separate audiences due to cultural differences.
