It is odd that Word does a better job of compressing
gifs within binaries... I think I may look into
compressing some pngs and gifs and see what happens.
I think it might be more useful to compare the file
quality/size than to simply compare the results of
inserting a 30k png and 30k gif - since you might
be able to get a significantly larger (size-wise)
usable image from the png if the compression is
better. I think the png compression algorithm works
better on more complex images... I converted a
screenshot to 256 colors and it saved as a 20K png
and 30K gif.
