What a goober! =8?)

I took a personality test for one job, scored high at both ends of the
scale, whatever that meant, they hired me anyway and I did very good
work for that company. I took another test, an enormously long test,
once for a part time job selling printing services . . . passed it with
flying colors. For my very first tech writing gig, a college internship
about 11 years' ago, I had to write instructions describing how to don a
jacket--for someone who had never seen such clothing. This was the only
test of writing I have ever taken. I thought it odd that somebody who
had never seen clothing configured like a jacket would find themselves
in the position of wanting to read about how to put one on--but
apparently I scored high on that, too, because I got the job.

I am unconvinced that tests work, but I also don't really know any way
of quantifying a candidate's abilities before you hire them except for
reviewing their portfolio. So, I'd say, if the candidate has a solid
portfolio, give them a test. If they're a newbie or an obvious goober,
give them the test. LOL!

Cheers,

Sean

I was once administered an IQ test during a job
interview. I thought it was odd, but seeing as I'd
driven about 140 miles to the interview, I figured
what the hell. Scored pretty high, so I guess I can't
complain. But... doesn't it seem odd to you?

Have any of you ever been administered an IQ test
during an interview? Any other weird test?

FWIW, I later found out that not all applicants were
given the IQ test. I don't know why I was asked to
take it... maybe I don't look all that bright... ;)
