I have to say (no, really, I do) that I think it's a copout to let people
off the hook by saying 'they won't talk to you till you've earned their
respect.'

I think I have already earned a fair amount, for one, and it's part of their
job, for two, and I've been persistent in mining info people have, walking
that fine line before harassment!

it always takes a while to get in the loop, esp when they're hiring a solo
tech writer for the first time, but it's still discouraging when days go by
and nobody notices you much.

they're also all fighting fires at the moment, and it doesn't occur to them
that I'm interested in some of the fires, or the outcomes, and/or they don't
have time to sort thru what might be useful. I do realize there's gonna be a
lot of ongoing work making myself visible, eavesdropping, whatever it takes.

still, combined with not knowing _what_ I don't know, it's discouraging at
times

that is all
