I suppose that as on so many other occasions in life,
someone will hate you for whatever you do. As for me,
I'm turned off by applicants who walk in saying "Don't
tell me about your company, let me tell you about your
company." I think, "What are you, Professor Harold
Hill?"
I remember one job applicant who took the advice of showing an interest in the company to which he was applying a little too seriously. His cover letter started something like this:

"I am completely committed to making a career at your company my life's work."

I couldn't help wondering if the company could expect him hanging around reception, offering to go for coffee or waiting to save the boss' daughter in best Horatio Alger fashion in order to get a start. I was a little disappointed when he proved fickle and we hear nothing more from him. ;-)
