I can understand sticking with Netscape if you are forced to use UNIX or any of its cousins, but why limit yourself with Netscape, Opera, Mozilla,
Whether you limit yourself depends on what you do on the Internet. For example, I have very little need for Flash, Quicktime, or even Java support, because most of the sites I use are informational. I have these plug-ins (which, by the way, are available for Netscape), but I don't miss them much when I try other browsers.

or any of the other wannabe browsers when Internet Explorer works well and is free?

The same can be said for the alternatives. Despite claims, I haven't noticed much difference in performance between most of them.

However, I personally prefer to avoid Internet Explorer. For one thing, it's not available on Linux, which is my main OS these days. More importantly, in my own quietly fanatical way, I prefer to use free software whenever possible. I can use Mozilla or konqueror without any difficulty, so I do.
