TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Apparently, my message was cut off somewhere in Cyberspace but all I had to say was your message just about sums it up Michael. I worked at one job for three years then my evaluation said I was a "Senior Writer." Shortly after, I changed jobs to work from home and the group I worked in (same company)resented me calling myself a Senior Writer, I think because I wasn't in that group as long as the others, so I became JUST a "Technical Writer" again.
Summary: There are no sets rule or distinctions between a Writer, Tech Writer, or Senior Writer. Some companies use it to decide pay levels, some use I, II, and III to distinguish who gets what pay, other than that...we are mostly just Technical Writers...or Information Developers...or Documentation Engineers...but that's a whole other topic isn't it?
