Actually, it is "best practice", with a 'c' not an 's'. The one with the 'c'
is a noun, and the one with an 's' is a verb.
Grammar lesson over, best practice is one of those fads that are associated
with every industry. You keep hearing them off and on, sometimes endlessly
on. Reengineering, Leveraging, Total Quality Management and Best Practices
all come under the same heading.
Essentially, when a project is completed, a review of the project is done to
capture the key successes and failures and challenges encountered while
executing the project. It is a retrospective effort and as part of the
exercise, the best practices are documented for use by other project teams.
The best practices would comprise of every action or standard followed by
the team which in their opinion contributed to their success. This could be
having an additional person for Quality control, or regular calls with the
clients leading to a better understanding on the part of the team or
periodic visits by the client or having more coffee breaks to help the
creative process.
I documented done quite a few best practices in my time, though frankly, I
have been skeptical of most.
Have a nice day,
Regards
