"Weight" is not a grammatical concept, so the truth of
that assertion is difficult to judge.
The justification for the comma in the construction I suggested,
however, is to separate the two pairs.
Consider this analogue --
"I had two sandwiches: Ham and cheese, and chicken and avocado."
Sure, there are other ways of conveying the sense, but the request
was for advice about "which of the following ... ", not "how else might
this be written"?
