You'll probably get a wide range of responses to this. You can get Word to
accomodate HUGE documents, both in terms of file size and page count. But
to do so typically requires a pretty high level of skill with Word. In
other words, "Word gurus" can coax a lot of performance out of Word, where
neophytes might crash more quickly.

In my opinion a "typical" Word user can work without too much fear on
documents up to a couple hundred pages, and with file sizes up to 5 Mb,
give or take a Mb or two. Beyond that, it gets challenging.

Word is like Frame in that it takes some training and or study to get GOOD
at using it.

Word differs from Frame in that it can also be used with little or no
foreknowledge of how the tool works, a feature that allows the uninformed
user to create some truly bizarre documents of sometimes gargantuan
proportions.

Frame is more frequently used by "pros," who typically have taken more
time to assess both the tool and the kind of documents they intend to
create with it.

Good luck!
