Got a contract this week...back on a third go-round with a software
development company...got their big annual release coming up and I'm
doing the lone writer thing. Company has gone from 80 to 20 in a year and
a half; I'm the only one who's returned from the dead.

I tried three things this time that have worked well, and need to thank
some techwr-l folks:

* John Posada once suggested 'when you first arrive, get something
written. Anything.' I did this. It worked great!
* Taking a page from Andrew Plato, I spent most of my time reading specs.
Playing with the app (In the process, I caught some bugs. The QA manager
wants to fold me into his department.)
* Decided that this time I'm going to write. Not waste time organizing
when things are always in a state of flux. I'm going to a.) learn the
product, b.) write, c.) lather, rinse, repeat.

And you know what? I've come up with a good template, and a decent
spreadsheet tracking system, while focusing on the content. "Seek first
the kingdom of God and all other things will be given you besides..."
