agree, build it into your hourly rate -- and/or deduct the expenses on your
tax return!
Always do both, actually.
Of course do this, or you may find clients desiring to hire writers who live
closer to their place of business. I believe excessive itemizing of
expenses when charging customers only serves to antagonize them. Kind of
like your car mechanic charging you for cleaning his shop towels--do you
have a charge for wear and tear on your computer, your phone, etc.? The
only place to get obsessive about your overhead expenses is, indeed, on your
tax return. If you feel guilty about, say, overcharging your physically
nearby customers, give them a discount off the top--but if you do your other
customers may hear about it--so don't.
