TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
1. Eliminate from the process those that don't know anything about
typography or design. (Q: In a numbered step should we state the result of
the step when it is clearly obvious?)
2. Play with various fonts until I find the combination that *I* think
works.
3. Run proposed fonts by at least two memebers of the group that I am sure
will agree with me.
4. Redesign print and online templates using new fonts.
5. Update existing docs with new templates.
6. Send to print and/or publish online help before boss has a chance to give
his speech about how Arial is on everyone's computer so we should use it for
all our docs.
7. Rinse and repeat.
Sometimes it's good to be king..., uh, the manager.
