Could I please have some advice on how to word something?

I am editing a section of a document that describes how to enter an "item" into a larger "item-tracking" application. When you create a new item, you must select all sorts of required information about the item from a screen that pops up. Most of the information is selected from drop down lists, and just a few other fields are open fields where you can type in what you want.

A procedural step introduces a table that describes all of the areas on the screen where you must select information. To say "Enter the following fields" seems incorrect to me, since you can't enter. You must select from the lists available in most of the fields. But for some fields you can Enter.

Is there a way to say "select or enter" without saying those exact words? Maybe I'm being unnecessarily nitpicky, but this one bothers me :).

Thanks,

WW
