TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
If the revisions improve the document, I'm delighted. (I've only met a couple of
reviewers who can consistently offer good suggestions, and I highly value their
feedback.)
If the revisions are detrimental or just idiosyncratic (personal grammatical
phobias and superstitions), then I thank the reviewer nicely for their
"suggestions," remind them that I'm looking for a *technical* review, and
discard what doesn't work.
If the revisions are detrimental AND the reviewer has approval authority, THEN
we have a problem. If they hand down the changes and I'm not allowed to revise
further to fix things, then <understatement>I'm not a happy
writer.</understatement> If they give me a chance to negotiate and revise to
find a solution everyone can live with, then everything usually turns out fine.
