Like any other public utterances, it's fair game. Of course, the students have the responsibility to evaluate the merit of their sources, but they SHOULD be doing that anyway (well, in a perfect academic world they would).
I actually quoted Andrew talking about playing video games with the SMEs in a paper last semester to make a point about workplace bonding or something like that (there have been too many papers since then to remember the exact circumstances).

I guess more than an ethics question, it's an issue of legitimacy: are
opinions stated in an Internet bulletin board "quotable" as academic
research? What do you think?
