Hi everyone,
In Microsoft's online help for most applications that
I have seen, they use verbs in a very interesting (at
least to a newbie like me) manner. Books (that contain
topics) are named as "Using Word...." or "Running
Programs...." etc. Topics within these books, on the
other hand, are titled as "Change....." or
"Rename....", etc., basically, without the "-ing"
form.
Is there some compelling reason to do so? I have
recently created a Table of contents that has both
books and topics in the "-ing" form of the verb. Am I
doing something wrong, or generally unaccepted?
Btw, would the "-ing" form in these cases qualify as a
present participle or gerund? (its fine is this
question is not answered :-) )
