Do it! The best thing I ever did for my job prospects, back when I was starting out, was shell out for a copy of FrameMaker. Aside from MS Word, it's probably the software most commonly mentioned in job ads.

Of course, you and Andrew are right: tools are easy to learn. But try telling HR mavens that.
